Within this picture, the hands could signify the strength and
power the chorus of Hero’s have over Claudio. Their capability to surround and
isolate Claudio have a further impact on the guilt he feels- perhaps causing
him to place all the blame upon himself. Here, the man pictured is lying
against the ground, as though cowering away from the hands. This could suggest
how Hero is intensifying his weaknesses and causing him to give in to the guilt
eating away at his conscience. As an individual he has much less power than the
manipulative force that the chorus of Hero’s maintain.

This
image could represent how Claudio is blinded by guilt. All the different colors represent different events that he regrets therefore forming a mental
block- he is unable to forgive himself and has become isolated from the world
(living in the misery of his past).
Similarly to the previous two ideas, this picture represents the effects of his guilt. Each regret is like a burden Claudio has to carry and takes shamefully upon himself. The nails could suggest how he is being consumed by mental illness/post-traumatic stress – they are having a physical and mental toll which affects his daily life. Alongside his own shame, some of these nails could represent loss (of Hero) and perhaps the ways in which she also hurt him. The beginning of our play presents the couple fighting therefore she could have said or done something to hurt Claudio in the same way that he hurt her.
The first picture is interesting. we could almost re-enact this by having all the Hero's pointing at Claudio in the bingo scene; giving him an excuse to go and pack. we could also explore the idea of the point gesture and create movement just by simply pointing and taking it to the extremes. We could even add the point into our bingo motif at different times. I feel this image is really strong and that there is a lot we could play with around this picture. xxx
ReplyDeleteAll of these images are very interesting. (the 2nd one is kinda creepy though). *angel thought* could Claudio attend an art class at the hotel and create something like the 2nd picture? just a thought not sure where it would fit in the piece though. OR could we put paintings like these 4 up round the building so as Claudio and the audience walk round they see these weird images, as it is the Hotel di Colpa, Claudio could react to these images in scene changes as the audience walk round. xxx
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that, could be really interesting! I love the idea of having the paintings around the building as each one subtly implies or foreshadows events to come. Also, as it's in his head, it would make sense as the pictures are small memories or captured feelings. Perhaps in certain rooms e.g. The bedroom we could have pictures that portray love/betrayal, whereas in the bingo scene, the pictures could represent fear, anxiety and the feeling of being overwhelmed?
